The Oscar Wilde trial, reported in the Illustrated Police News, May, 1895
The Illustrated Police News, first published in 1864, was a weekly newspaper. It featured reports of grisly murders and hangings, and may be seen as the successor to the 18th Century execution broadsheets, as well as the forerunner of the more sensational 20th Century tabloids. Publication ceased in 1938.
